WARMING! 2023

The title refers to global warming and it’s a warning addressed to everyone: preventing climate change depends on each of us!

The series of Warming! installation was initiated in 2007 during an artistic residency at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, referring to the major fires at global level that affect forests and contribute to the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and the generation of the greenhouse effect.

In 2021, in the context of the exhibition Oasis.Green Identity, the installation Warming! was redone as a site-specific intervention in the Young Naturalists’ Resort in Timișoara, that revealed, using thermochromic materials with video-audio effects, the impact of public thermal imprint on the natural environment.

In 2023, as part of the Layers of Reality exhibition at the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, the installation discussed the grid of international conventions on global warming and global heat wave warning codes. It used the Blue Marble image of the Earth, first photographed from outer space in 1972 by the Apollo 17 crew from about 29,000 kilometres from the planet’s surface, an iconic image that has become in recent decades a fireball through the lens of the last century great industrialization. The public was invited to experiment with thermochromic materials and leave their own thermal imprint which triggered ambient sound and lights effects, thus becoming aware of their impact on the environment.

In 2024, the project proposes a more scientific approach to the global warming issue, which in recent years has caused a crisis with profound implications at all levels of reality. The installation will be redesigned at a technological level using biosensors that will determine for participants a personalized experience of their own thermal imprint, but also using thermochromic monitoring video cameras, will be revealed the thermal information cloud of the collective public with big impact on the environment.

Also, it would be interesting to use algorithms for processing the global warming monitoring databases within scientific institutes, which would reveal the global thermal information cloud.
